Students living within 2-miles of their school will no longer be bused to campus beginning next school year.
The School Board voted 3-2 Tuesday to end a years-long debate by eliminating the district's pay-to-ride system and its grandfathering policy. Students living in a hazardous walking area still can receive school-bus transportation.
Approximately 725 students will be affected by the change, according to Director of Transportation Kayleen Watts.
Both board members and Watts referred to the money that would be saved by cutting 2-mile busing, but none was able to say how much would be saved.
