Some visitors just can't wait to get to the Treasure Coast's beaches.

The official sea turtle nesting season doesn't start until March, but the first nest of the year — laid by a leatherback turtle — was found Feb. 6 just north of Santa Lucea Beach near Stuart on Hutchinson Island.

It's the earliest nest on record in the state, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
